The RedLaser app is currently available for iPhone and Android platforms. You can find the RedLaser app in the iPhone App Store and the Android Market.
When will you have a Windows Phone version of the RedLaser app (or RIM/Blackberry, etc.)?
We are always evaluating extending RedLaser to additional mobile platforms. Stay tuned for announcements regarding new versions of RedLaser.
What codes can I scan with the RedLaser app?
You will be able to read both 1D and 2D codes with RedLaser. For both our iPhone and Android app, you will be able to see results for UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, and QR Codes.
Why doesn't RedLaser bring back any prices for me?
There are a few common reasons why RedLaser might not return results for a product:
1. Network firewall settings – It is possible that the wireless network you are connected to is blocking RedLaser from accessing the Internet (especially common in corporate environments). One way to work around this problem is to switch your phone to 3G Internet while you are using RedLaser.
2. The product is not for sale – If the product is not for sale anywhere, then RedLaser won't be able to display any results.
3. RedLaser's price sources don't have prices for the product – RedLaser uses different services to collect price information (including Google and TheFind.com). If those services don't have prices for the product, RedLaser won't know about them.
Why doesn't RedLaser bring back any local results for me?
There are a few common reasons why RedLaser might not return local results for a product:
1. Your Local Search setting is off – Make sure your Local Search (GPS) setting is on. To check/change the setting, go to Settings > RedLaser, and ensure the "Local Search (GPS)" switch is set to "ON".
2. The product is not for sale – If the product is not for sale anywhere, RedLaser won't be able to display any results.
3. RedLaser's price sources don't have prices for the product – RedLaser uses different services to collect price information (including Google and TheFind.com). If those services don't have prices for the product, RedLaser won't know about them.
I manufacture/sell products but they are not appearing in RedLaser scan results. How can I upload my product catalog or inventory feed to be included in RedLaser's search results?
We currently do not offer a self-serve feed where partners can upload their product data. However, depending on the demand for this service, we may consider offering a similar service in the future. Please email info@redlaser.com if you are interested in participating.
Now that eBay has acquired RedLaser, are you still licensing the RedLaser SDK to third parties?
Yes, we are still licensing the RedLaser SDK to third parties.
What is the "Evaluation SDK"?
The Evaluation SDK is available for free for you to evaluate the RedLaser SDK. It is limited to 25 scans on any one device. (So please do not attempt to publish an app using the Evaluation SDK!) You can download the Evaluation SDK from this page: http://www.redlaser.com/sdk
What is RedLaser's starter package"?
You can obtain a starter package by following the process here: http://www.redlaser.com/sdk/sign-up.php
The starter package enables you to add up to 25 UDIDs (device IDs) to your account for unlimited scanning for development and testing. Prior to publishing your app, you would need to contact us (info@redlaser.com) to complete an application license.
Does the RedLaser SDK use the frameworks approved by Apple in iOS 4.0+?
Yes, the RedLaser SDK has been upgraded to use the AV Foundation frameworks that are approved by Apple. Note that these frameworks are available only in iOS 4.0 and above, so the RedLaser SDK will only work on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 devices. The original (2G) iPhone cannot run iOS 4.0+, and is not supported.
What are the fees associated with licensing the RedLaser SDK?
I've read the pricing information, but how exactly do the licensing fees work?
The minimum license fee is $2,500. That serves as a down payment against either a per-user fee of $0.10 (for free applications) or a 10% share of gross revenue (for paid applications). That means that the $2,500 serves as an advance against either your first 25,000 users, or first $25,000 in sales. There is no setup fee, and there are no other recurring fees associated with licensing the SDK.
Why should I pay you for an SDK license when there are free alternatives for barcode scanning?
We believe the RedLaser scanning technology is superior to any of the free alternatives. We encourage you to try out the various solutions and decide for yourself.
How can I pay the license fees?
We will issue you invoices for your license fees. We accept payment via bank transfer, check, and/or PayPal.
What code types does the SDK support?
We support the following code types for both iOS and Android: UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, QR Code, Code 39, Code 128, and ITF. For Android, we also support Data Matrix, Code 93, and RSS14.
